We’re queer for climate action!

There are dozens of environmental events happening around the city, and a few organizations (like Got Green Seattle and 350 Seattle) doing great climate justice work every day. Today is as good as any to get involved! Collective action is the only way we will get climate change under control.

Help make our communities more sustainable so that we can have fire and drought-free summers, clean waterways for salmon and the people that depend on them, and a more resilient and livable environment. In addition to organizing around climate justice, here are some things you can do:

  • Plant native plants. Did you know that Seattle has just 28% tree canopy cover? Downtown has as little as 10%, and Sodo is around 15%. In areas with less tree cover, more of the population tends to be people of color and people with lower incomes. We can do better.

  • Eat less meat and animal products.

  • Support public transit infrastructure and a walkable city designed for people, not cars!

  • Put politicians in office that deliver real results for the climate. Update your voter registration now at gaycity.org/Vote.

  • Buy/trade used products instead of new. A lot of resources and energy go into manufacturing new products, and we have some great thrift stores like Out of the Closet and Lifelong Thrift!

Neoliberal capitalism hampers our ability to solve climate change, but for those with capacity, let us know how you’re getting involved!
