Five Books to Read for Bisexuality Awareness Week

This week we are celebrating Bisexuality Awareness Week, an opportunity to highlight the fight against biphobia, acknowledge the resilience of the bisexual community, and to increase acceptance. Here are five #BiWeek2018 books you can read. These books are free to check out in Gay City’s library, which features more than 7,000 publications by and about the LGBTQ communities.
1. Bi Notes for Revolution by Shiri Eisner In this forward-thinking and eye-opening book, feminist bisexual and genderqueer activist Shiri Eisner takes readers on a journey through the many aspects of the meanings and politics of bisexuality, specifically highlighting how bisexuality can open up new and exciting ways of challenging social convention. Exploring this often controversial concept from a range of perspectives, this book places bisexuality in its historical and cultural context and explores its many meanings and uses. Bi Lives: Bisexual Women Tell Their Stories by Kata Orndorff A collection of 18 in-depth interviews with a wide range of bisexual women of different races, ages, and economic classes involved in a very wide variety of lifestyles. Best Bisexual Erotica by Bill Brent and Carol Queen The stories in Best Bisexual Erotica reflect the tremendous breadth and diversity of the bisexual world, using erotica as a means to explore what it means to be bisexual. Visibility, acceptance, identity, polyfidelity, and expanding one’s sexuality — concerns common to people of all orientations — will be explored with a fresh and unique bisexual perspective.
