“Out of everywhere I’ve been tested for HIV, Gay City was the only place that didn’t shame me.

“Since I started, I developed a soft spot for clients who are coming in for the first time, or who have experienced shame while getting tested. I want to hold space for those experiences in the same way Gay City has held me.

“I focus on listening to where the client’s questions are coming from. I try to be really flexible to give them whatever they emotionally need. Some clients want a tour of the whole Gay City space to learn more about our other programs and how to get further involved. Others want to dole out their information in controlled pieces and keep more to themselves. I am happy to respond to whatever a client’s needs are and let the client lead the testing experience.

”One thing I didn’t expect is talking to people over 80 about sex. It makes me feel like a nun!”
