Comment Policy

Gay City: Seattle’s LGBTQ Center dedicates itself to maintaining a culturally competent, respectful community while actively engaging in lively discussions about LGBTQ+ matters. Our mission is to cultivate access and connections to promote self-determination, liberation and joy in our communities.

Please keep the following in mind when writing or reading comments:

Disclaimer

Gay City does not necessarily agree with or endorse every comment that individuals share on our pages. While social media is a 24/7 channel of communication, our moderation capabilities are not. Inappropriate comments may not be noticed immediately. We trust in the maturity of our communities to ignore derogatory speech and respond politely.

You are welcome to report any comments violating Gay City’s commenting policy to [email protected] or direct message us. Direct messages are checked daily.

Respect Everyone

All are welcome and encouraged to engage on Gay City’s pages. Please be polite to all members of our communities, including commenters, authors, and the subject of discussion/content. Remember there are actually people behind each comment, so please proofread comments to avoid the use of derogatory language (e.g. hate speech, hostility, insults and negativity). Hate speech includes comments that target people or groups in an abusive or threatening way based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and other protected statuses. Do not share someone else’s confidential, sensitive or personal information when commenting (e.g. contact/identification numbers, names of individuals). Observe confidentiality laws.

Safe Place

Gay City is an active member of the Safe Place initiative, which supports LGBTQ+ youth. However, we use similar concepts of advocacy, safety and support for all members of our communities. Direct Messages to Gay City

We welcome all messages through our various social networking sites. Our promise to you is to reply to direct messages within 48 hours or sooner; depending on the type of request and information needed.

Spam

Spam of any nature is not accepted. This includes promotional material, links to malicious websites, or posts that are not related to the conversation/topic.

Other Unacceptable Behavior

Graphic violence, nudity in profile pictures and comments, bullying or harassing individuals, repetitive comments (copy and paste), comments that infringe on copyrights, disinformation, and other comments the Gay City social media team deems inappropriate.

Policy Violation

Gay City will provide one warning. If the behavior continues, Gay City reserves the right to remove, hide or ban comments as we find necessary.
