Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center March 16 2024 Illustration & Media Workshop Signup
Thank you for your interest in Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center's upcoming Illustration & Media Workshop, as part of our Youth Advocacy Media program! Please complete this form to sign up if you are interested in illustration and can attend the workshop in-person on March 16th, 1-3pm at Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center.

In this workshop, we will provide some background information on how to use art and media for health advocacy purposes (substance use prevention in particular), followed by an arts/illustration workshop to help you develop your illustration skills while creating artwork to support the creation of a zine on rainbow capitalism (which will also explain in greater detail). With your permission, your artwork will then also be featured on the Center's Youth Advocacy Media Instagram account and elsewhere to celebrate you!

Eligibility: This opportunity is open to LGBTQ+ young people ages 14-24 who are residents of Washington State. We ask that attendees have some prior experience using digital illustration tools like Procreate or others, though this is not required.

Stipend: For participating in the full 2 hour workshop, we will provide you with a $40 stipend. As an additional option, we can provide $50 for finished art pieces that we can use in our (publicly available) rainbow capitalism zine and $100 for more complex art pieces that we can use in the zine, on social media, and other Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center content.

Date & Time: March 16, 2024, 1-3pm

Location: In-person at Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center, 400 E Pine St #100, Seattle, WA 98122

Please feel free to reach out to youthadvocacy@gaycity.org if you have any questions, and we'll see you there!

Do you have a disability?
Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center does not solely rely on the legal definition of disability, which recognizes a disability to be a physical or mental impairment that impacts one or more major life activities. Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center recognizes that society disables individuals, whether or not their disability is recognized, by maintaining discriminatory practices that oppress people who are not able-bodied. For the purpose of this question, disabilities may include mental illnesses, chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities, temporary disabilities, and anything else an applicant may consider a disability. This information is requested for Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center's reporting purposes and will not be shared in connection to any personal identifying information. To learn more about how Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center understands disability, please refer to the following links: (1) What is Disability by the Disability & Philanthropy Forum: https://disabilityphilanthropy.org/resource/what-is-disability/ (2) What is Disability Justice by Sins Invalid https://www.sinsinvalid.org/news-1/2020/6/16/what-is-disability-justice.
