Scholarship Details

  • Applicants have one of three scholarship choices to choose from
    2 year $7,000 scholarship for a full-time student
    1 year $3,500 scholarship for a full-time student
    1 year $1,500 scholarship for a part-time student

  • All applicants are students living with HIV

  • All applicants are either currently or going to be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in an institution of higher education for at least one year

  • All applicants must have an unweighted GPA of 2.5

  • All applicants have the option to make their name public or not if they’re awarded a scholarship

  • The HIV League Scholarship is the only national scholarship specifically for students living HIV, exists because there is great potential of any student living with HIV, and aims to build the leadership, knowledge, and skills of its scholars, which is the truest form of investment in one’s future

  • An HIV League Scholar is a promising student living with HIV as evidenced by their educational accomplishments, leadership, and service

The HIV League Scholarship : 2019

  • Reached out to 545 Community Based Organizations/AIDS Service Organizations/University Groups across the USA, Puerto Rico, and Guam

  • Received 125 applications from students living with HIV across 29 states, District of Columbia, and international students going to a school in the United States

  • The age ranged from 17 to 62 among these 125 applicants

  • Up to 72% of the 125 applicants were applying as a first-generation student

  • Up to 34% of the 125 applicants identified as female, up to 64% of the 125 applicants identified as male, and up to 5% of the 125 applicants identified as genderqueer/gender nonconforming

  • Up to 11% of the 125 applicants self-identified as Asian, up to 54% of the 125 applicants self-identified as Black/African-American, up to 21% of the 125 applicants self-identified as Hispanic/Latinx, up to 4% of the 125 applicants self-identified as Native American, up to 5% of the 125 applicants self-identified as Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, up to 20% of the 125 applicants self-identified as White/Caucasian, and up to 10% of the 125 applicants identified as a Mixed Race

  • Of the 125 applicants, 5 were selected as 2-Year Full-Time HIV League Scholars and received a $7,000 scholarship award, 2 were selected as 1-Year Full-Time HIV League Scholars and received a $3,500 scholarship award, and 2 were selected as 1-Year Part-Time HIV League Scholars and received a $1,500 scholarship award.
