2026 Brand Update
The Center Is Getting a New Look
Thanks to our friends at DH, we’ll be updating our branding over the next few months with a whole slate of carefully crafted materials. Check out our new brand guide or read our update below for more context!
You may have heard some whispers or seen a sneak peek at one of our events last year, but it’s official, we’re getting a new look! We’re still the same people doing the same (ever-evolving) scope of work, we’re just coming out as our new authentic selves for the next phase in our 30+ year-long history.
This brand update came about through a partnership with our friends at DH. DH is a social impact agency that uses communication and creative strategy to build stronger organizations and communities. After a close collaboration in which they spent time getting to know our team, our work, and our goals, they created stunning, impactful materials for us to use to further our mission to cultivate access and connections to promote self-determination, liberation, and joy in our communities.
We are excited to share our new visual elements with you today. As we transition to the new branding, expect to see those visual elements in our digital and physical spaces, including a new website, fresh paint at the Center, a change to our name, updated language to describe our work, and more.
Here are some highlights as we start rolling out our new look:
Meet The Seattle LGBTQ+ Center
You might not even notice this change without us pointing it out, but we’re dropping the “‘s“ from our name. No more “Seattle’s LGBTQ+ Center”. The Seattle LGBTQ+ Center is a little easier to say and write. Later this year you will see us switch from gaycity.org to our new domain name, seattlelgbtqcenter.org when we transition to a new website.
NEW LOGOS
The Seattle LGBTQ+ Center’s logo is both an evolution and homage to the Center’s physical signage, and strikes a balance between boldness and joy. It consists of two core elements: the intersecting arcs on the left and the bold, stacked letterforms on the right.
On the left, two sets of three interlocking arcs are drawn from the lines of the Center’s exterior signage. Their suggested movement evokes a sense of outreach and connection, while their overlap symbolizes the layered, intersectional identities within our community — and the strength we find in standing together. Collectively, the arcs also form a “C,” referencing our familiar shorthand: “the Center.”
The letterforms to the right are a nod to the typography used in the Center’s physical signage. The bold, stacked design features tall letterforms for “LGBTQ+,” representing visibility, pride, and standing tall in one’s truth.
Typeface
Our new primary typeface (for headings and in our new logo), Queering, draws inspiration from queer publications and protest posters of the 1970s and ‘80s, connecting our mission to the lineage of queer and trans resistance and self-expression.
Color Scheme
The bold gradients in our main color scheme dissolve rigid boundaries, rejecting binary thinking and visually reflecting the full spectrum of identities we’re proud to support and serve.
The Seattle LGBTQ+ Center’s primary and secondary color palette is composed of vibrant cool and warm colors designed to feel both welcoming and bold.
Graphics
As an extension of the brand, the intersecting linear paths that make up the “C” of the primary logo will be used in varying pathways as a graphic pattern element.
What’s Next
Expect to see us roll out our new website with fully updated branding later this year. Until then, you will see us increasingly lean into our new branding over the next few months at the Center itself, online, and out in the community.
We invite you to celebrate these changes with us as we head into Pride month. Then, join us at Gardens & Gems on July 10 at the Center for Urban Horticulture to help support our work in community. At our World AIDS Day fundraiser later this year, DH will be joining us as a sponsor, so please join us in celebrating and appreciating them and all their hard work on this brand update from now until then, and beyond.
