Gay City University Presents: LGBTQ And Addiction

Gay City University, along with Seattle Counseling Service and Hazelden Foundation, present full day of learning and networking for addiction professionals to better understand addiction in the LGBTQ community.
Register online by May 11, 2012. Registration is $25. Lunch and six continuing education credits will be provided.
Opening Panel
Telling Our Stories - Panelists will share their personal experience with addiction and recovery.
Individual Tracks
Cultural Considerations - Terminology, history, challenges, and triumphs providing context and language guiding providers supporting the LGBTQ community.
Treatment and Recovery - How to work in a culturally competent way with clients who face multiple oppressions.
Stimulant Use - Methamphetamine and other stimulants in our community; motivations for use in men vs. women, impact on health, HIV, and sexuality.
Building Healthy Relationships in Recovery - Finding support with family, spirituality, sexuality, intimacy, and community.
Closing Panel
Strategies for Care - Discussing the full spectrum of options to support the LGBTQ community, stopping use, and building lifelong recovery; including the role of harm reduction, outpatient, inpatient, and other Twelve Step support options.
